Dr. Suzanne Nelson has recently joined the staff of Read Mountain Animal Hospital. She grew up in LaFollette, a small town in East Tennessee. She decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Animal Science in 1996. The veterinary profession was a natural fit, incorporating her passion for working with animals and love of science. She graduated with honors from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee in 2006. Upon graduating, she moved to Michigan with her husband, Adam, while he finished his degree at Michigan State University. During this time she worked as a small animal practitioner and welcomed the birth of their daughter. After several years, she returned to the South with her family, moving to Roanoke. Dr. Nelson loves the area, especially the mountains, because it reminds her of her home in East Tennessee.
